Was Sick of Being Just a Picture on a Moodboard

Was Sick of Being Just a Picture on a Moodboard

So for the last 2 years I’ve really been distancing myself from the creative spaces I used to frequent. At the top of this year, I posted about not being a stylist anymore. There were a lot of things that led to this distancing. I love styling, but I can’t lie: at a certain point, I felt like I was wasting my time and energy being a stylist. I always wanted to design anyway.

I got into it just because of how much I loved clothes, and I thought that I was the most flyest person ever, still think this, btw, so who better than me to dress people up. But above all, just like modeling a saw it a foot in the door to the industry, a way to connect with a community of people in which i thought, especially at the time, that I wanted to exchange ideas and commune.

But I mistook industry for community. Not saying you can’t find community within an industry, but there’s a reason why rappers always rap about not wanting industry friends.

It’s because they’re shitty.

The exchanges of ideas I hoped for were mostly one-sided. The communing? At least in my experience, was non-existent; people loved my work and the services I provided but couldn’t even bother to get my name right. Sure, I was in the “important” rooms and spaces, but eventually it all meant nothing to me because a lot of those rooms I stepped into felt like a setup to get robbed, artistically, spiritually, and sometimes literally. My stylists know how much people like to take the clothes we use.

All that, along with a ton of family matters that consumed me, wore down my patience with finding the people within the creative world. Not saying that I don’t or won’t fuck with anybody in the scene, but I will say that I am extremely burnt out by a lot of these people. Which is why I withdrew completely.

I hope all the creatives I’ve made genuine connections with understand.

And to all the fake niggas,  fuck you genuinely.
